Summary
A Home Visitor teaches kindergarten and pre-k students bi-weekly in their homes. The Home Visitor will work with children on pre-academic goals needed for Kindergarten. This person is responsible for involving parents in their child’s activities, being informed of their child’s progress and provide creative strategies to work with their children. This person will help parents create Family Educational Plans; connecting families with GED, ELS and college credit courses. This person is responsible for interviewing and enrolling all new referrals of students who are currently in Kindergarten or will be entering within 6 months and live in the Lehighton Area School District.
*Contingent upon grant funding.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Make home visits to initially enroll families in the program; visit all families at least one time per year.
Visit families of identified pre-K and Kindergarten children whose assessments indicate deficits in academics and/or behavior on a bi-weekly basis.
Help in planning and attending parent involvement activities.
Work with families to create educational plans and action steps.
Provide links to community services/resources.
Available for a minimum of 1 Friday night per month and 2 Saturday’s per year for staff training and development.
Maintain records as required.
All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Looking for a teacher or early childhood certification. Excellent oral and written communications. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Basic knowledge of MS Word. Ability to be cooperative, pleasant, and tactful. Ability to perform in a highly efficient manner while handling multiple tasks. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Must possess a high level of the following work skills and behaviors; teamwork/cooperation; initiative, and commitment to continuous professional growth in skills and knowledge.
