Crochet 1

This is a 6 week introductory course to basic crochet techniques for the absolute beginner.  During this course learners gain an understanding of basic terminology and techniques.  By the end of the course, learners will complete a scarf and headband

Cyanotypes and Digital Negatives

This is a 6 week course designed for beginners with an interest in photography and art.  Learners will gain hands-on experience understanding the historical significance and process of cyanotype printing.  Learners will create digital negatives suitable for cyanotype printing.

Everyday Lens: Cultivating Mindfulness and Visual Storytelling Through Daily Photography

This 6 week course, aims to encourage beginners to develop a daily photography practice that fosters mindfulness and enhances their ability to tell visual stories. Through daily assignments and creative exploration, learners will learn to see the world through a photographer’s lens.  This course is ideal for aspiring photographers, hobbyists, and anyone looking to incorporate mindfulness into their daily routine. No prior photography experience is required, and participants will benefit from a supportive, creative environment. 

Introduction to Adobe Illustrator

In this 6 week course, learners will be introduced to Adobe Illustrator, the industry-standard software for creating vector graphics. As an aspiring graphic designer, artist, or just someone interested in developing a new skill, you’ll learn the foundational tools and techniques used to create high-quality digital work. Through exercises and hands-on projects, you will gain confidence in using Illustrator’s powerful tools to bring your creative ideas to life on screen. By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills to create logos, simple illustrations, and designs that you can incorporate into your portfolio or personal projects.

From Hand-Drawn to Vector Art

In this 6 week course, you will learn how to transform your hand-drawn artwork into professional-quality vector designs using Adobe Illustrator. Whether you’re an aspiring illustrator or graphic designer this course will guide you through the process of creating original hand-drawn illustrations and converting them into clean, scalable vector art. You’ll gain skills in both traditional drawing techniques and digital design tools to bring your unique artistic style into the world of digital design. 

Intro to Acrylic Painting

In this 6 week course, learners looking to try painting for the first time, as well as, those who want to improve on their skills in accuracy and detail without long-term commitment will meet to gain skills in the use of acrylic paint.  Learners will gain an understanding of the basic concepts of blending, mixing, adding values and contrast, underpainting along with, cleaning and maintaining supplies.

In this 6 week course, learners looking to try painting for the first time, as well as, those who want to improve on their skills in accuracy and detail without long-term commitment will meet to gain skills in the use of oil paint.  Learners will gain an understanding of the basic concepts of blending, mixing, adding values and contrast, underpainting along with, cleaning and maintaining supplies.  

Practical Gift Making

In this 6 week course, learners will discover the endless creative possibilities of DIY gift making.  Each week learners will be introduced to a new project.

Intro to Grant Writing

This introductory course provides participants with a practical foundation in grant writing for nonprofit organizations, community projects, and public initiatives. Computer Basics & MS Word Part 1

This beginner-friendly course is designed to introduce students to essential computer skills and build a strong foundation in Microsoft Word. Over five interactive sessions, participants will learn how computers work, navigate operating systems, manage files, browse the internet safely, use email, and store documents in the cloud. Each session includes hands-on activities and dedicated time for learning Microsoft Word, helping students develop practical skills for everyday use in personal, academic, or professional settings.

• By the end of the course, students will be able to:
• Identify basic computer hardware and software
• Navigate operating systems and desktop environments
• Organize and manage files and folders
• Use web browsers, search engines, and email safely
• Work with cloud-based storage tools
• Create, format, and save documents using Microsoft Word

Computer Basics II Apps & AI

This is a dynamic follow-up to Computer Basics & MS Word Part 1.  This course expands on foundational computer skills by exploring essential workplace software and introducing emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI). Students will deepen their understanding of file sharing, data handling, and productivity tools through hands-on practice with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. In addition, learners will gain confidence using digital media, understanding system tools, and working collaboratively in the cloud.

A special focus is placed on understanding and interacting with AI tools. Students will explore real-world applications of AI, learn to craft effective prompts, and experiment with tools like Bing Chat, ChatGPT, and Microsoft Copilot.

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

• Create, format, and analyze data in Excel using formulas and charts
• Design basic presentations in PowerPoint
• Understand database concepts through Microsoft Access
• Recognize and use common media formats and system utilities
• Collaborate using cloud-based tools like OneDrive and Google Drive
• Understand the role of AI and use it effectively for personal or professional tasks.

The course concludes with a review, optional mini project, and certificate of completion.

Welding 1

Develop basic skills in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (Stick) on steel. Required equipment may be purchased at the training site (approximate cost $125.); safety glasses, welding gloves, welding jacket and welding helmet. Class takes place at WTTI (Welder Training and Testing Institute, 729 East Highland St., Allentown).
