Selecting a program of study and appropriate college courses may be the most important tasks in the college experience. The choices a student makes will greatly influence their satisfaction with the college, performance in classes, persistence in college, graduation, entrance into a four- year school, and eventually a career. Advisors and counselors are available to assist students with these decisions by providing information regarding policies and procedures at LCCC. Students who are experiencing academic difficulty are encouraged to speak with an advisor or counselor to discuss their options.
Advisors are assigned to students by schools at LCCC. It is important that you meet with the advisor within your school as they have the most up-to-date information and best understanding of your program of study. Students who are in a pre-health program, the general studies program or are undecided are assigned to advisors in the advising center.
All newly admitted students are required to meet with an academic advisor prior to enrollment. The advisor will review transcripts of previous college work, assessment test results, the student's academic, career, and personal goals, as well as the requirements of the student's program of study. With this information, the advisor will help the student make the most appropriate course selections.
Advising and counseling services provide a dedicated and developing collaborative relationship with students in support of their educational, career and personal goals. A wide variety of services and workshops are offered for students to strengthen their academic achievement and provide a support structure.
