LCCC Mindfulness Course Helps Students Handle Stresses of College Life

published Thursday, June 20, 2019

Understanding that students taking college classes or being on a college campus for the first time can be stressful, Lehigh Carbon Community College is offering a special one-credit class entitled Mindfulness for Academic Success (SDS 103). The course will be taught by Wendy Barron, professor of media communications and certified mindfulness instructor.
The class will meet once a week on Wednesdays, from 2:20 to 3:41 p.m., the first 10 weeks of the semester starting Aug. 28.
The course is designed to address the specific stress that college students feel and will help them gain the tools to monitor their reactions to stressful situations; reduce worry about school, work and family; focus more effectively when reading, studying and taking tests; and learn to live in the present. Specific topics include recognizing worry and what to do about it, learning to respond rather react, reflective writing, and putting it all together to be the best you can be.
The course starts Wednesday, Aug. 28, and is open to new or current LCCC students. Registration is ongoing and payment is due at the time of registration. For more information on the course, contact Wendy Barron at
