Exemptions

Please review the exemption lists below for English, Math, Reading and Science to determine course readiness.  Trancripts will be reviewed for placement testing exemptions for those students who have graduated high school within the past two years.
 
Reading Test Exemptions
  • SATV – 490 or higher
  • ACT Reading – 20 or higher
  • AP Literature – Grade of B or higher
  • AP History – Grade of B or higher
  • 3 College Courses (9 credits) of Humanities or Social Sciences with a B or higher
English Test Exemptions
 
Automatic placement into ENG 099:
  • Not eligible for ENG 100 or ENG 105
 Automatic placement into ENG 100:
  • Final grade of C+ or lower in 12th grade English or AP English
  • ACT English – below 21
  • SAT Verbal – 350-480
 Automatic placement into ENG 105:
  • Final grade of B or higher in 12th grade English or AP English
  • ACT English – 21 or higher
  • SAT Verbal – 490 or higher
  • Written reference from 12th grade English teacher sent from their professional email address recommending the student for college-level coursework in English.
 Automatic placement into ENG 111:
  • Final grade of B or higher in 12th grade English or AP English
  • ACT English – 21 or higher
  • SAT Verbal – 490 or higher
  • Written reference from 12th grade English teacher sent from their professional email address recommending the student for college-level coursework in Speech
 Math Test Exemptions
 
Automatic placement into Math 090 and 120:
  • Any student (placement determined by Advisor based on major)
 Automatic placement into Math 105, 118, 121: 
  • SATM – 500 or higher
  • ACT Math – 21 or higher
  • Keystone Algebra I: Advanced
  • High school Math class, Algebra I or higher with a grade of B or higher
 Automatic placement into Math 125, 130, 150:
  • SATM – 650 or higher
  • ACT MAT – 29 or higher
  • High school Math class, Algebra II or higher with a grade of B or higher
 Automatic placement into Math 160:
  • High school College Algebra or Algebra III with a grade of B or higher
 Automatic placement into Math 188:
  • SATM – 650 or higher
  • ACT Math – 29 or higher
  • High school Calculus – Grade of C or higher
  • High school College Algebra or Algera III with a grade of B or better
 Automatic placement into Math 191:
  • AP Calc AB or BC – grade of C or higher
  • High school Calc – grade of B or higher
  • High school Trig or Precalc – Grade of C or higher
Science Placement

Astronomy
  • SATM – 500 or higher
  • ACT Math – 21 or higher
  • Keystone Algebra I: Advanced
  • High school Math class, Algebra I or higher with a grade of B or higher
Biology 105, 110, 135/7  
  • SATM – 500 or higher
  • ACT Math – 21 or higher
  • Keystone Algebra I: Advanced
  • High school Math class, Algebra I or higher with a grade of B or higher
 Biology 163
  • SATM – 500 or higher or ACT Math – 21 or higher or Keystone Algebra I: Advanced or High school Math class, Algebra I or higher with a grade of B or higher AND passing Biology test placement score or one year of high school Biology within the past five years with a grade of C or better.
 Chemistry 108
  • SATM – 500 or higher
  • ACT Math – 21 or higher
  • Keystone Algebra I: Advanced
  • High school Math class, Algebra I or higher with a grade of B or higher
 Chemistry 111
  • High school College Algebra or Algebra III with a grade of B or higher AND high school chemistry with a grade of B or higher
  • AP Calc AB or BC – grade of C or higher or High school Calc – grade of B or higher or High school Trig or Precalc – Grade of C or higher AND high school Chemistry with a grade of C or higher
Physics
  • Appropriate Math placement for the course pre-requisite
