Position Summary:

The EMT Instructor provides classroom and laboratory instruction to students enrolled in the Emergency Medical Technician course. The instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality education that meets state and national EMT education standards, evaluating student performance, and ensuring compliance with the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Bureau of EMS, and institutional policies. Instructional assignments will be commensurate with the instructor’s certification level (EMR, EMT, Advanced EMT, Paramedic, PHRN, Critical Care, and other material delivered).

Key Responsibilities:
● Provide instruction in EMT courses at or below the instructor’s certification level.
● Deliver lectures, skills demonstrations, and scenario-based training consistent with state and national curricula.
● Supervise and evaluate student performance in classroom, lab, clinical, and field settings
● Ensure compliance with Pennsylvania Department of Health EMS Education Standards and community college academic policies.
● Assist with course setup, equipment maintenance, and inventory of EMT training supplies.
● Maintain accurate student records, including attendance, grades, and progress.
● Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and continuing education as required.
● Serve as a role model for professionalism, ethical practice, and patient-centered care in EMS.
● Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom and lab environment.
● Uphold professional and ethical standards, and model positive and professional interaction skills for students.
● Provide academic support and guidance to students.
● Foster a positive learning atmosphere that helps students build confidence

Required:
● EMS instructor certification
● 18 years of age or older.
● Has successfully completed an EMS instructor’s course approved by the Department or possesses a bachelor’s degree in education, a teacher’s certification in education, a doctorate or master’s degree.
● Has provided at least 20 hours of instruction time in an EMS provider educational course monitored by a certified EMS instructor designated by the EMS educational institute’s administrative director.
● Possesses current certification as an EMT or higher level EMS provider.
● Possesses current certification in CPR or current certification as a CPR instructor.
● Possesses at least 1 year of experience in providing EMS as an EMT or higher level EMS provider.
● Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and, if applicable, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or other advanced credentials consistent with level of instruction.
● Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
● Commitment to student success and ability to work effectively with diverse populations

Preferred:
● Associate or higher degree in EMS, Nursing, Education, or related healthcare field.
● Prior teaching experience in EMS education or allied health.
● Familiarity with Pennsylvania EMS Education Standards and accreditation requirements
● Experience in adult education or workforce training.
● Familiarity with non-credit or continuing education systems.

Licensing Requirements:
● Valid Driver’s License
● Required to comply with PA Act 15: Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check, and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Check.
