Lehigh Carbon Community College (LCCC) is offering two new learning technology courses that will help both education students and in-service teachers improve their use of technology in the classroom and receive Act 48 credits.

EDU 120, Teaching with Technology, is a 10-week, fully online course that begins May 21. It provides teachers with an in-depth look at new and emerging technologies. Participants will learn ways to integrate technology with teaching and learning, and they will develop a portfolio that can serve as a toolkit of resources for the classroom. Topics include networking a digital classroom, using academic software and other online tools, accessibility solutions, emerging technologies and the opportunities and challenges of digital learning.

EDU 240, Technology Integration in Education, is also fully online and offered during the fall semester, from Aug. 25 through Dec. 15. This course will present best practices for integrating technologies and enhancing instruction. Participants will analyze current technologies for their effectiveness and use with diverse learners, and then evaluate the effectiveness of online collaboration and web literacy tools. Topics include the role of technology in teaching, developing lessons using technology, fostering online learning, exploring problem-solving with software apps and games, and collaborating with social media. This course is designed for individuals with intermediate computer skills.

Both courses will count as Act 48 professional development credits. Act 48 is a law mandating all professionally certified educators in the Commonwealth maintain active certificates by complying with prescribed continuing professional education activities every five years.
