LCCC Celebrates Week of the Young Child April 23-29,2017

Lehigh Carbon Community College (LCCC) will celebrate its 30th annual Week of the Young Child (WOTYC) April 23-29 with sessions for adult learners and events for children. All of the WOTYC events are held on LCCC’s main campus in Schnecksville, Pa., and are open to the public.
A special program for children, featuring Linda Holliday, ventriloquist and magician, is set for 10-11 a.m., Wednesday, April 19. The presentation, entitled “Laugh and Learn,” is a visual, colorful and fun show for preschool-age children. The event is free, but pre-registration is required by contacting Deb Wanamaker at 610-799-1875 or A spring planting ceremony featuring the children of LCCC’s Early Learning Center, will take place at 11 a.m., following the show.
On Tuesday, April 25, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., LCCC’s Teacher Education office will present an anti-bullying workshop for early childhood education professionals, with facilitator Nancy Dutt. Fee is $10 per person.
On April 29, LCCC’s Teacher Education program will sponsor its annual Saturday Seminar, featuring several nationally prominent educators. The keynote topic is From Play to Practice: Connecting Teachers Play with Children’s Learning, with speaker Walter F. Drew, Ed.D., founder and executive director of the Institute for Self Active Education. The workshop will begin with registration at 7:30 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. Cost for Saturday’s training seminar is $50 per person and $10 for LCCC students. New this year is vendor shopping, with items for purchase from Pampered Chef, Thirty One Gifts, Premier Designs Jewelry, and more.
A free workshop for high school students interested in Pre-K through 4th grade is set for Friday, April 21. Local high school students will spend the morning attending interactive workshops on guiding young children in learning.
