Culinary Arts Certificate at LCCC Prepares Workers for Food Service Industry

Students interested in the growing food service industry will have the opportunity to earn a certificate in culinary arts in just 10 months in the new Culinary Arts program at Lehigh Carbon Community College (LCCC).
The certificate program focuses on sustainable, farm-to-table culinary arts skills, with a focus on local sourcing and farm-fresh ingredients. The program offers 32 credits in courses that teach techniques, entrepreneurship, baking fundamentals, purchasing, international cuisines, American regional cuisines, sanitation, and more.
With the explosion of new restaurants and hotels throughout the Lehigh Valley and beyond, the need for skilled chefs and cooks has also grown. The food industry is enjoying growing popularity due to televised food channels and food festivals, making the goal of becoming a skilled culinary arts practitioner a popular career choice.
The career program is designed to provide students with skills to prepare them to work in the hotel, restaurant or food service industry. Students will receive classroom instruction and practical experience in a kitchen facility. The program concludes with a culinary arts practicum in which the student will work at a restaurant or in the food service industry to earn real-world experience. Students who complete the program can continue studies in hospitality management, culinary arts, pastry arts and gastronomy.
Typical jobs for which graduates would be qualified include line cook, prep cook, executive steward, kitchen manager, sous chef and other food service management positions.
Classes will be held at the LCCC Schnecksville campus and start the week of August 27. Classes are scheduled for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, to accommodate the schedules of people who are already employed in the service industry. Information on courses can be found at
