Work Schedule

40 hours per week, Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.(includes ½ nonpaid lunch).

Salary Ranges

$17.59 - $22.10

Summary

Assists in the maintenance of the college’s buildings, grounds, and equipment across all college sites.   Must be able to work other shifts if needed.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Assists with grounds maintenance, which includes use and maintenance of power mowers, tractor mowers, and other maintenance equipment.
  • Assists with mechanical maintenance in all phases of building maintenance and other related duties, including painting, repairs and replacing lamps in light fixtures.
  • Performs custodial duties as assigned in addition but not limited to checking bathrooms, trash and recycling removal, spills clean up, assisting in the overall cleanliness of the college.
  • Removes snow and ice on walkways and parking areas, including proper operational techniques for any and/or all snow removal equipment.  This is a priority.
  • Assists when called upon on with moving office furniture and any special event setups.
  • Assists with distributing packages, equipment and supplies (including U.S. Mail and UPS) to other departments across the college.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies in assigned area.
  • General knowledge of sports field setup and maintenance.
  • Sets up and maintains athletic fields as required.
  • Responsible for the coordination of athletic field maintenance with physical plant and outside vendors.
  • Be available to work Saturdays and overtime when needed.
  • Performs other duties and projects as may be assigned.

 

Required Qualifications

 

Education:

  • High school degree or equivalent.

Certifications:

  • Act 153 Clearances (Act 34 PA Criminal Background, Act 151 PA Child Abuse History, Act 114 FBI Clearance Fingerprinting)
  • Valid PA Driver’s license.

Work Experience:

  • Cleaning, repairs and/or grounds keeping experience

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Ability to function effectively with limited supervision.
  • Practice effective communication skills and maintain confidentiality.
  • Be available to work a flexible schedule.
  • Understand the proper methods of mixing chemical supplies as per the Workers and Community Right-to-Know Act.
  • Ability to safely operate equipment used for cleaning, i.e., vacuum, scrubbing machine, and buffer for assistance in seasonal cleaning program.
  • Ability to safely operate equipment used for mowing and landscaping such as mowers and trimmers.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, stretch, push, pull, climb, and shovel.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to and working in freezing, subfreezing, and hot/humid temperatures.
  • Reliable means of transportation, especially during bad weather conditions.

  • Must possess a high level of the following work skills and behaviors: teamwork/cooperation, initiative, customer service, and commitment to continuous professional growth in skills and knowledge

Preferred:

  • Bilingual (Spanish)
  • Three years of cleaning, repairs and/or grounds keeping experience

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, stretch, or crawl; push, pull, climb, shovel and talk or hear.   The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.   Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must have the ability to tolerate exposure to cleaning chemicals.   Ability to tolerate exposure to and working in freezing, subfreezing, and hot/humid temperatures.  Flexibility to meet the diversified environment.  Is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and toxic or caustic chemicals.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
