The Non-Credit Phlebotomy Instructor is a part-time instructor responsible for teaching all aspects of the phlebotomy training program at Lehigh Carbon Community College. The primary responsibility is to deliver engaging and effective classroom lectures and laboratory instruction, ensuring students develop the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed as entry-level phlebotomists. This role involves comprehensive curriculum delivery, hands-on skills training, student assessment, and fostering a professional and supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction:

  • Deliver comprehensive instruction on the theory and practice of phlebotomy, including venipuncture, capillary collection, and specimen
  • This includes teaching relevant anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and basic laboratory

Skills Training:

  • Supervise and guide students during hands-on practice in a lab
  • Demonstrate and ensure students master proper techniques for blood collection, patient identification, infection control, and safety

Curriculum Management:

  • Implement and adapt the college’s approved curriculum to meet student learning outcomes and industry Ensure course content aligns with the requirements for national phlebotomy certification exams (e.g., NHA or ASCP).

Student Assessment:

  • Evaluate student competency through a variety of methods, including practical skills assessments, quizzes, and

Professionalism:

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom and lab

  • Foster a positive learning atmosphere that helps students build confidence and address any anxieties related to performing blood

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience: A minimum of two (2) of recent, hands-on clinical experience as a phlebotomist or in a related healthcare role (e.g., Medical Assistant, RN, LPN).
  • Certification: Current and valid phlebotomy certification from a nationally recognized organization such as the National Healthcareer Association (NHA), American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT).
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate degree or higher in a healthcare-related field is often

  • Background Clearances: Must be able to obtain and maintain current PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Background Check, and PA Child Abuse History

Preferred

  • Experience in adult education or workforce
