Summary

Noncredit Integrated Education and Training (IET) instructor to deliver instruction for an Start You Own Business class for ESL students.  Instructors report to the Director of Literacy, ESL, and Student Success.  This instructor will be teaching a class that includes a customer service certification, setting up a business plan, and having students present their final plan to an audience.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Co -instruct course with an ESL Instructor where students earn a customer service certification, create a business plan and present to an audience
  • Maintains student work and hands in samples of work to literacy office
  • Completes professional development training in accordance with LCCC standards and grant
  • Maintains clear records on programs, both for students and program review
  • Plans teaching strategies and activities that are appropriate for adult learners
  • Provides linkage for students to progress from one educational program to another
  • Aids in meeting special needs of students
  • Assists the Student Success Coach in identifying students in need of barrier or transition assistance
  • Conducts informal assessments and makes recommendations about student’s class placement.
  • Motivates and encourages students
  • Keeps current on adult education by attending conferences, professional development trainings, and meetings
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the assistant director

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or appropriate field.
  • Experience working with a diversity of people in an educational setting.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and to work cooperatively in stressful situations.

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.  The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

Work Environment

 The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
