LCCC Online has a few technical requirements that are not very involved and if these requirements cannot be met, all students are able to use the computers that are available at any of the LCCC sites.
The first two things that you need are a computer (either Windows or Mac) and an Internet connection. If you are using a Windows computer, it is recommended that you have at least Windows 7 installed as your operating system. If you are using a Mac, it is recommended that you have at least 10.9 (Mavericks) installed as your operating system. Whether you are using Windows or Mac, it is recommended that you always have the latest updates from Microsoft or Apple installed on your computer.
For the most part, mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, are compatible with the WebStudy learning management system (LMS) BUT there are some features will not will work. Since some of the features will not work, it is recommended that a mobile device not be the only way that you access the LMS.
Regardless of the type of device, you access the WebStudy LMS through your web browser (such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Apple Safari). Most of the web browsers that are available will be compatible with the LMS but we specifically recommend that you use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. The WebStudy LMS is not apart of the myLCCC Mobile app that is available for Apple iOS or Google Android devices.
When you are using your web browser in the LMS, there are free plugins that may or may not need to be installed. These are plugins that most computers and web browsers already have installed for normal web browsers. The plugins that you will need are Adobe Flash Player, Adobe Reader, and Java. It is recommended that you always have the latest version of these plugins so that your computer is protected from security vulnerabilities and has the latest features.
It is highly recommended that you have Microsoft Office so that you are able to complete your assignments, reports, projects, or presentations. Microsoft Office is recommended so that you are able to maintain a file's compatibility. If you use other pieces of software such as OpenOffice or Apple's iCloud you or your instructor could experience problems uploading, sharing, editing , or reviewing your files. Microsoft Office is a package or suite of programs and comes with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as a few other pieces of software.
You may purchase the latest version of Microsoft Office from the college's bookstore or by going to Microsoft's Store. Microsoft Office is available in two different formats:
- a four-year subscription called Microsoft Office 365 University and costs $79.99
- a one-time fee called Microsoft Office Home & Student 2016 and costs $149.99
You can see this differences between Microsoft Office 365 University and Microsoft Office Home & Student 2016 by going to this compare webpage that Microsoft has put together. Options that are specifically available for students can be viewed by clicking on the "Student" tab.
Other Software or Resources
Some courses will require that you purchase additional software or codes for textbook publisher online resources. You will need to look at your course syllabus, contact either your instructor, or go to the college's bookstore to see what is required.
Only uniquely identified, authenticated and authorized users may access restricted computer systems. Students access BannerWeb and the learning management system via single-sign-on authentication by logging into the myLCCC Portal.
The College employs various measures to protect the security of its computing resources and of our users’ accounts. All users are required to safeguard user IDs and passwords assigned to them for various systems. Sharing of passwords for any system is strictly prohibited.
Students who lose or forget their myLCCC username or password should contact the Office of Registration and Student Records at 610-799-1171 for assistance.
