Environmental Health and Safety

This is a state certified committee through the Department of Pennsylvania’s Bureau of Workers’ Compensation Certification Unit. The committee structure must be comprised of 50/50 split between labor and management. A quorum for each meeting is needed of at least 51 percent. The committee must meet every month. All committee members must attend training via webcast annually conducted by a Loss Control Specialist. Training for committee members is comprised of three areas: Conducting Effective Safety Committee Meetings, Accident Investigations, and Hazard Identification.

On June 26, 2003, the committee became certified under Article X, Health and Safety of the Workers’ Compensation Act. Through this certification, the college receives a 5 percent discount on our workers’ compensation rates.

The committee reviews safety issues and concerns brought by staff and students.
