Transfer Scholarship Opportunities

The 2012 Bucknell University Community College Summer Scholars Program
Six LCCC students may have the opportunity to participate in a six week residential summer program at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA.  The selected students will enroll in two classes taught by Bucknell University faculty.   Participating students will receive a small stipend, room and board in addition to the tuition free experience, and are expected to return to LCCC to complete their associate degree in 2012-2013.

Eligibility requirements:

  • A cumulative GPA in the area of 3.5
  • Completed at least 12 credits as of January 1, 2012
  • Current enrollment at Lehigh Carbon Community College
  • Low to moderate income.* (Defined as having an Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) below $50,000 for families or below $25,000 for independent students as officially determined through the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
  • Plan to transfer to a 4 year college or university after completing LCCC associate degree
  • Problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities

The application process requires:

  • A completed application form (http://www.bucknell.edu/x32413.xml)
  • Two letters of recommendation, at least one from college faculty
  • A completed FAFSA financial aid form identifying both LCCC and Bucknell (003238)
  • Signed copies of parents’ 2010 federal income tax return.  Students who are 24 years or older will be considered independent students and will be asked to submit a signed copy of the 2010 tax return.
  • Copies of all high school and college transcripts
  • An essay
  • A personal interview which will be scheduled on the LCCC campus

The Morris K. Udall Foundation Scholarship

The Morris K. Udall Foundation offers scholarships of up to $5,000 for tuition, room and board, or other educational expenses for college students who plan to pursue a course of study and career that will allow them to make significant contributions to the shaping of environmental issues, tribal public policy, or Native American health care issues. Up to six LCCC students will be nominated to compete nationally for this scholarship and will be selected on the basis of demonstrated commitment through leadership,contribution to and participation related to environmental or natural resource issues, or tribal public policy or Native American health care. To be considered for nomination one must:

  • Be a student who will transfer and be eligible for either junior or senior standing in fall 2012
  •  Intend at least one or two more years of full-time undergraduate study beginning in fall 2012
  •  Be committed to a career related to the environment OR tribal public policy OR Native American health care
  • Have a college grade-point average of at least a 3.0
  • Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or U.S. permanent resident.

The internal LCCC deadline to complete the Morris Udall Foundation online application  has been extended to Monday,  February 27, 2012.  This scholarship deadline will be strictly enforced. Incomplete applications will not be considered.


The Community College Fellows Program at Moravian College

Beginning in the fall of 2011, Moravian College will annually welcome as many as thirty transfer students to campus as Community College Fellows. Up to ten fellowships from Lehigh Carbon Community College will be awarded.

Features of the Program
Fellows will receive an annual renewable Fellowship of $10,000. The Fellowship also includes recognition activities, including dinner with the President once a semester and regular invitations for special events and opportunities for networking.  We hope that Community College Fellows will be actively engaged in Moravian’s partnership with the local community colleges by making recruitment visits to local community colleges, writing testimonials about the transition from a community college to a four-year college, and hosting prospective transfer students when they visit campus.

Eligibility
Candidates must have a 3.50 grade point average and must submit an essay outlining reasons for beginning a four year degree program of study at a Community College, reasons why they feel they would be a strong candidate for the fellowship, and a description of both academic and career goals that led them to consider attending Moravian College.  All candidates are required to have a personal interview with the Director of Transfer Enrollment.

Moravian College Scholars in Mathematics and Computer Science (MCS2)

 MCS2 is a scholarship program supported by the National Science Foundation that provides scholarships of $10,000 annually (up to $25,000 total) to transfer students who pursue a bachelors degree in mathematics or computer science at Moravian College. Approximately 6 scholars will be selected each year, starting in fall 2011.

The Roberta and Ernest Scheller Jr. Family Foundation Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship: To provide aid to deserving Schuylkill County residents who are or will be graduates of Lehigh Carbon Community College’s Associates’ degree programs through the John and Dorothy Morgan Center for Higher Learning, and who wish to pursue their education at Kutztown University, Bloomsburg University, East Stroudsburg University or other such institution that is part of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) as may be approved upon request.

University of Phoenix Manufacturing Institute Scholarship

The Manufacturing Institute and University of Phoenix have come together to help manufacturing employees and students advance professionally and personally with scholarship opportunities that can help individuals earn their degrees at University of Phoenix.  Twenty (20) full-tuition University of Phoenix Manufacturing Institute Scholarships will be awarded to workers and students hoping to complete their undergraduate or master's degree.  Scholarship recipients may choose to attend University of Phoenix online or at a nearby location.

Application deadline:  April 18, 2012
Award date:  June 23, 2012

Eligibility criteria:
Applicants must be one of the following: Currently employed by a United States manufacturing company; transitioning employee (within the past year), looking to reenter the manufacturing workforce or who might be reconsidering a career change into manufacturing; community college student graduating with a manufacturing-related associate degree prior to June 13, 2012; or a student completing a nationally portable, industry-recognized credential prior to June 13, 2012.  Applicants must agree to be a national spokesperson for advanced manufacturing careers, if selected, for the term of the scholarship. This includes, but is not limited to, being highlighted in special communications, e.g. newsletters, media campaigns, and research studies.  Applicants must not be currently enrolled nor in the process of enrolling at any University of Phoenix campus or in any online program at any time prior to the scholarship award date. Applicants who enroll after submitting an application or before the scholarship award date are not eligible to be a recipient of this scholarship.  Applicants must meet all admissions requirements of the University of Phoenix.
