Placement Testing

The purpose of placement testing is to determine which subject level is most beneficial for the student; it is not used for admission to LCCC. LCCC does not allow retesting, so students should be sure to schedule testing at a time when they will be prepared to do their best and will not be rushed. Testing is available at the following sites:

  • Carbon: 570-669-7010
  • Donley: 610-799-1940
  • Morgan: 570-668-6880
  • Schnecksville: 610-799-1575

COMPASS

All new full-time students are required to complete COMPASS placement testing prior to registration. Part-time students must complete placement testing prior to enrolling in their fourth credit at LCCC. The COMPASS test places students in English, Math and Reading. Sample questions are available at www.act.org/compass/index.html.

SAT and PSSA

Students may use their SAT and/or PSSA scores for placement if they have earned appropriate scores and have official copies sent to LCCC.  For information on appropriate scores click here.

Students who plan to major in Health Information Technology, Nursing (ADN and LPN), Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physical Therapy Assistant and Veterinary Tech must take this placement test.

Chemistry
The Chemistry placement test is a prerequisite for Che 111 (General Chemistry). Students majoring in Engineering, Natural Science, and Physical Science must take this placement test. Che 111 also has a required COMPASS math score, or completion of Math105 (Intermediate Algebra).

CIS 105
The CIS 105 pre-test is a short test to screen students who would like to test out of CIS 105 (Introduction to Computers and Applications). Students who successfully pass the pre-test will be contacted to take the CIS 105 final.
