The Program
The Physical Therapist Assistant program at LCCC was founded in 1969 as the first PTA program in the state of Pennsylvania and one of the first programs in the nation. In 1971, the college graduated its first class of physical therapist assistants and was accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association. Since 1967, hundreds of physical therapist assistants have graduated from this program and are working throughout Pennsylvania and across the country in a wide variety of clinical settings including hospitals, extended care facilities, rehabilitation centers, outpatient clinics, sports medicine centers, pediatric facilities and school-based intermediate units. Graduates of the LCCC PTA program consistently exceed the national and state physical therapist examination pass rates.
The Students
PTA students are a diverse group of men and women, many of whom are entering the profession following other careers. They are introduced to the importance of developing and maintaining competence and professional growth through membership in the Physical Therapist Assistant Club. This club helps students develop a sense of responsible citizenship, effective leadership skills, self-awareness, and it promotes a cooperative spirit among PTA students. Each year the club raises funds to support their community service projects and professional development activities.
All students are required to join the American Physical Therapy Association(APTA) as student members. The cost of this membership is approximately $80.00 per year. Through the APTA newsletter and conferences as well as regional association meetings, students are informed of current and future issues in the field of physical therapy.
