Orefield-Resident, LCCC Student Named 2014 Coca-Cola New Century Scholar

Lehigh Carbon Community College (LCCC) student, Caitlin Brown of Orefield, Pa., has been named a 2014 Coca-Cola New Century Scholar. She is one of just 51 community college recipients nationwide. Selection was based on the score earned in the All-USA Community College Academic Team competition, for which more than 1,700 students from more than 900 community colleges applied for this year’s competition.

Brown is a second-year student majoring in psychology and intends on continuing her education at West Chester University in the fall.

This program is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and the Coca-Cola Foundation and administered by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Each scholar receives a $2,000 scholarship and will be presented at the American Association of College Presidents (AACC) Convention in Washington, D.C. on April 8, 2014.

Nominations were evaluated on academic achievement, leadership, service and a response to a significant endeavor. Judges consider grades, leadership, activities and most importantly, how students extend their intellectual talents beyond the classroom.
