GED

CLASSES ARE OPEN ENROLLMENT. New students are added on a monthly basis. Dueto limits on class size, there may be a waiting list. Students must take a testbefore registering for these classes. For more information, call 610-799-1955.

GED Preparation
Through a grant funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, LehighCarbon Community College is offering free GED classes. Teachers assist studentsin the skills necessary to successfully pass the GED test. Students receivefree assistance in goal setting, employability skills, computer basics, andtransitioning to post-secondary education.

Pre-GED Instruction
Free pre-GED classes provide support in basic reading, writing, and mathskills. Valuable life management skills—such as banking, shopping, computer,and goal setting—are also taught in the class. The Pre-GED program also helpsstudents make the transition to the GED Preparation program.

GED Preparation in Spanish
Taking and passing the GED test is a necessary step in professional andpersonal growth. Prepare to take the GED test in Spanish and prepare forsuccess. Introduction to English as a Second Language

Improve your speaking for daily tasks, such as shopping, visiting the doctor,or using the telephone. Increase your ability to communicate with co-workersand supervisors. Gain confidence for talking to your child's teacher. Listeningactivities will also improve your ability to understand spoken English. Thisclass is for intermediate-level students only. Credit Prep ESL

Advanced Skills for English Language Learners

This class focuses on the advanced reading, writing, and speaking skillsthat English language learners need at home, at work, and in the community.Topics include health, shopping, education, banking, work readiness, andcommunity issues. Students will gain fluency in tasks such as talking on thetelephone, writing letters, completing forms, asking for or giving information,and conversing with native English speakers. Approval of coordinator isrequired to register for this class. The class is open to students who havecompleted Foundation of English as a Second Language or who pretest at thislevel. Work Matters

This 40-hour free program will assist students in exploring the reading,writing, and math skills needed for employment success. Students will developcomputer skills necessary to conduct job searches, develop resumes, and writebusiness letters. Students will learn to use effective interpersonal skillsthat are crucial in today's workplace. Students will also learn the stepsnecessary to enter job training or academic programs.
