COMPASS Placement Test

Please bring the following items with you to your testing appointment:

• A photo ID is required (such as a driver’s license, passport, or school ID).

• Your LCCC Student ID Number (L########). This number was included in your acceptance letter. If you do not have it, we can release it to you when presented with a photo ID.

Purpose

The purpose of the COMPASS system of testing is to help LCCC place you into appropriate courses and to help ensure a successful educational experience for you.

The COMPASS system measures your skills in 3 areas: reading, writing, and math.

If English is not your first language, please let us know. ESL (English as a Second Language) Placement Testing may be more appropriate for you.

Preparation

If you wish to review sample questions prior to taking the test, you may do so at http://www.act.org/compass/student/index.html.

The estimated average completion time for the full test is one-hour-and-thirty minutes. However, it is self-paced and you may take more or less time to complete your test.

Completing the Test

You must use your 9-digit Student ID Number to sign onto the test.

You may use your own calculator if you wish, as long as it is not programmable. Or, if you prefer, you may use the calculator on the computer. You may NOT use any other wireless or unauthorized devices (i.e., cell phones, blackberries, IPODs, personal digital assistants).

When you have completed your test, your scores will print on the designated printer. Please pick up the printout and bring it to your advising appointment. Your Advisor will refer to this while assisting you with selection of your classes.

Retesting

Your scores are valid for two years. Retesting during that period of time is not available. If two or more years elapse between the time that you tested and when you plan to take your first English or Math class, retesting is required.
