Technical Requirements

  1. All necessary technologies for interactive videoconferencing courses are available in the videoconference classrooms.
  2. Students taking an enhanced face-to-face course may use the computers on campus if needed.
  3. Students taking an online or hybrid course will need their own computer with Internet access.
    • The Director of Enrollment Services will send you a letter with information about your campus email address. It is important that you log into this fairly regularly. All school communication will use this address, not your personal home email address.
    • We do not recommend that you plan to use only campus computers due to the time required for completing an online or hybrid course. This would be extremely inconvenient for most students.
    • Your computer should meet or exceed the minimum requirements listed below.
IBM Compatible PC:
  • Pentium IV processor or greater
  • Windows NT 4, XP or higher
  • 512 Megabytes of RAM (or higher); 1 GB recommended
  • 56 Modem may work for most classes, but a broadband connection (cable, DSL, LAN) is recommended.
  • Internet connection through an account on an ISP (Internet Service Provider) or a network connection to the Internet. Please note that your connection to the Internet must not initiate from behind a firewall.
  • CD/DVD-ROM/hard drive
  • XGA (1024 x 768) or higher display recommended
Macintosh:

  • System 9.2 or higher operating system; OS X recommended

3. Some courses will require that you have specific software to access some course resources. Commercial software listed below is available for students at a substantial educational discount through the college bookstore. You may order online at http://www.lccc.bkstr.com

  • Some examples are QuickTime Player for video or Acrobat Reader for PDF files. Your instructor will let you know if there are specific needs. Download free software here.

  • CIS-105 Online requires that each student use Microsoft Office Suite Pro 2007 for all lab assignments. You must be able to complete assignments in the 2007 versions of MS Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. This package is only available for Windows computers.
