Lehigh Carbon Community College's Disability Support Services officeprovides access and academic accommodations for qualified students. Aqualified student is one who meets the requisite academic standards foradmission or participation in college programs or activities. A studentis eligible for accommodations based on the following criteria:

1. The student makes the need known by scheduling an intakeappointment with Disability Support Services. The student requestsaccommodations by discussing academic needs with the LearningSpecialist by completing the student intake form during the appointment.

2. The student must submit appropriate documentation of a disability[see appropriate documentation section] indicating the nature, extent,and functional limitations of the disability as well as recommendationsfor reasonable accommodation in a postsecondary academic environment.

3. Disability Support Services staff review documentation, determineif the impairment is substantially limiting, and determine if thestudent is eligible for the accommodation(s) requested. DisabilitySupport Services will review submitted documentation and determineappropriateness of the documentation in addition to reviewing therecommendations on a case-by-case basis.

4. When requests are deemed reasonable and appropriate, DisabilitySupport Services will have the student sign an "Accommodation Memo"which identifies the reasonable and appropriate accommodations for thecourse(s) in which the student is enrolled.

5. Accommodations are based upon the student being "qualified," orable to perform the essential objectives of the program or course.

6. Accommodations requested by the student must be "reasonable." Theaccommodation must be an alternate way of displaying, conveying, orcommunicating knowledge or mastery of an objective in a course. Anaccommodation cannot lower the standards or change the objectives ofthe program or course.
