This appeal process shall apply to situations where a student hasfollowed the established procedures to request accommodations on thebasis of a disability, either to an individual faculty member,administrator, or Disability Support Services staff, and the requesthas been denied. All other student grievances shall follow thecollege's student appeals process as outlined in the "The Rights,Freedoms, and Responsibilities of Students" policy.

  1. The student should discuss the concerns with the individual(s)responsible for providing the accommodation within one week ofrequesting the accommodation. This individual could be an instructor orstaff member of Disability Support Services

  2. If unresolved, the student shall file a written appeal within 10working days to the Office of Disability Support Services. The writtenappeal shall state the accommodation, initial reason for denial, andwhy the accommodation should not be denied. The Disability SupportServices ad-hoc committee will review the case within 10 working daysof the student's written appeal and render a decision within 10 workingdays. The ad hoc committee will be composed of a designee from theacademic division but not the initial decision-maker, Dean of Students,Vice President for Workforce and Community Services, Director of HumanResources, a representative from Student Life, college counselor,representative from Noncredit Continuing Education, Associate AcademicDean, faculty representative, Disability Support Services staffrepresentative, representative from the Office of Operations andManagement, and other faculty or administration deemed necessary.

  3. If still unresolved, the student shall file a written appeal to theVice-President of Academic and Student Affairs within 10 working daysafter the ad-hoc committee's decision.

  4. Within 10 working days after the Vice-President of Academic andStudent Affairs' decision, a final written appeal may be made to theCollege President, whose decision is final.
