Study Abroad

Study abroad can be a very rewarding and enriching experience. Students who participate are given the opportunity to gain knowledge and cultural awareness as an integral part of their education. Past trips have visited Italy, Ireland, and Mexico. Study abroad experiences can range from a one-week experience up to a full semester or more. Gilman International Scholarship for Study Abroad
The Gilman International Scholarship is now accepting applications from students participating in study abroad programs. The Gilman Scholarship provides up to $8000 and is open to all U.S. undergraduates, in good academic standing, who meet the criteria listed below:

  • The applicant must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant at the time of application or provide proof that he/she will be receiving a Pell Grant during the term of study abroad.
  • The applicant is applying to or has been accepted into a study abroad program eligible for credit by the student's institution of higher education in the U.S.
  • The applicant is studying abroad for at least four weeks in one country.
  • The applicant is studying abroad in a country not currently under a U.S. Department of State Travel Warning or in Cuba.
  • Visit the Gilman International Website for more information and look for the Critical Need Supplement! You may be able to get an additional $3000 scholarship!

Passports for travel outside the United States
For US Citizens, passports are required for all travel outside the United States; this requirement includes all air and sea travel to or from Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, the Caribbean, Central and South America. This includes all land border crossing as well as land and sea travel. Helpful Links for Study Abroad
The US Department of State has launched a Students Abroad website. http://studentsabroad.state.gov/ The site is designed to offer college-aged Americans a one-stop reference for international travel. Students can download informational flyers as well as find country-specific information. There are also resources for parents and educators. Try it today!

Gilman Scholarships
This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a 2-year or 4-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.

American Institute of Foreign Study
Offers short-term and long-term programs. AIFS has helped students with study abroad, internships, and travel opportunities in 13 countries including: Argentina, Australia, Austria, china, Czech Republic, England, France, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Russia, South Africa, and Spain.

Semester at Sea
Offers a unique study abroad experience. Students attend class on a 'floating university' on a 24,000 ton passenger ship that cruises to various ports-of-call while you earn college credit.

Institute for International Education
The IIE provides an excellent starting point for anyone doing research for a study abroad program. It includes information about scholarships, financial aid, university programs and much more!

CIEE
The Council on International Educational Exchange is the leading U.S. non-governmental international education organization. CIEE creates and administers programs that allow high school and university students and educators to study and teach abroad.

CIA World Factbook
This site has current information regarding all the countries of the world. Information that can be found on each country includes brief histories, geographical, economical, and population statistics.
