COMPUTER SPECIALIST – INFORMATION SYSTEMS CONCENTRATION A.A.S.

Graduates will be prepared to provide technical support to users in an organization. They may be employed as personal computer support specialists in an information systems department, as “local experts” within other departments, or as help desk staff.

The responsibilities of these positions vary, but can include the following: evaluating and purchasing new software and hardware, integrating and maintaining computer systems, customizing software applications for users, providing technical support to users, developing manuals and training sessions for users, developing an understanding of the business in which they work, and reading professional literature/keeping abreast of new and changing technologies.

Upon successful completion of this program, graduates will be able to:

  • apply critical thinking, team building, and problem solving skills.

  • demonstrate effective communication skills.

  • develop application software and utilize workgroup software to solve business problems.

  • analyze and design enterprise systems using Computer-Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools.

  • use data modeling techniques to design databases.

  • develop and implement decision support and expert systems.
