3D Game Programming Camp
Ages 11-13

An opportunity for campers to create interactive games with Alice, an award-winning graphical programming language based on Java. Alice is an object-oriented programming environment that allows students to see how their animation programs run, helping young minds understand the relationship between programming statements and the behavior of objects in their animations. Campers will learn fundamental programming concepts in the context of creating simple video games. In Alice, 3D objects populate a virtual world and students create a program to animate the objects. Please bring a nonperishable, bagged lunch.

Cooking Camp
Ages 11-13

Our summer camp will demonstrate how to prepare and consume properly-balanced meals in order to maintain a healthy body and a sound mind that will help carry them through their lives. Your child will be amazed at how good healthy food can taste!

Our main focus is always to have fun cooking! Each young person will be furnished with a full set of recipes including a formula for converting portion sizes either up or down. Kids will enthusiastically recreate meals at home. It doesn’t get better than that!

Kitchen sanitation and safety issues will also be addressed. Children will be preparing dishes to eat here and take home. (This summer you may choose between a morning or afternoon session.)

Environmental Science Camp
Ages 11-13

Students will become familiar with environmental issues by collecting samples and analyzing data using standard analytical kits. They will work in teams to compile data and overview various pollutants, their sources, and potential health effects. Emphasis will be placed on fieldwork and sampling for chemical/physical analysis. Students will be introduced to the requirements of planning, sampling, and data reporting. This camp is fully-funded through the GenOn Energy, Inc. Grant. Please bring a nonperishable, bagged lunch.

New! Electric/Acoustic Guitar Camp
Ages 11-13

Listening and playing skills support articulate thought and organizational skills. This camp will cover the following: music alphabet as applied to the guitar, basic rhythm, rhythm guitar chords (power chord), strummed chord forms, strumming and picking technique (chords, notes, song structure and playing as a group), and how to practice, successfully, on your own. Rent or bring your own acoustic guitar of either steel or nylon strings or bring an electric guitar with suitable amplifier for small-room practice, medium or heavy pick, pencil, and a 1½ inch three-ring notebook. You may want to bring a “foot stool” that has an adjustable device allowing students to hold the guitar in the proper position. Guitar rentals and materials are available at West End Music in Allentown. Bring a bagged, nonperishable lunch and snack. Text required.

Junior Golf Clinic

This camp is designed for golfers of all ability levels. Full-swing fundamentals including pre-swing, in-swing, and post-swing, along with short-game instruction. Our goal is to increase the student’s level of interest—just having fun! This camp is held at Olde Homestead Golf Club, 6598 Route 309, New Tripoli.

Maya Animation Camp
Ages 11-13

This course provides an introduction to the tools and techniques utilized in the video game and film industries for creating computer graphic character animations. Students will utilize Audodesk Maya, which is used extensively in high-profile Hollywood and video-game productions, including producing visual effects and animations for such films as Spider-Man, Lord of the Rings, Transformers, and Pirates of the Caribbean. Emphasis is placed on navigating the Maya interface and developing animations using keyframing and built-in Maya effects. Please bring a nonperishable, bagged lunch.

Manito Equestrian Center - Horseback Riding Camps
Ages 3-16

An opportunity for your child to learn safety around horses, grooming, care, and maintenance of the horse and equipment, riding techniques, natural horsemanship, arts and crafts, games and water games—all in a beautiful outdoor setting of gently rolling hills and pastures. Campers need to bring a bagged, nonperishable lunch, drink, water bottle, and snack.

Campers need to wear long pants, firm shoes or boots with at least 1/2” heel (no sneakers or sandals), and bring shorts, a bathing suit and towel for other activities. Campers need to wear a safety helmet while riding (bike or riding helmets). Parents/guardians need to sign a release packet on the first day of camp. Manito Equestrian Center is located at 2160 N. Vet Shadowing Camp
Ages 11-13

A unique week-long experience for students interested in the sciences or who just love being around animals! Our instructor, an adjunct faculty member of the Veterinary Technician program at LCCC, has an exciting week of engaging and unusual behind-the-scenes activities planned. From exposure to myriad animal bones and several kinds of snakeskins to live “pocket pet” demonstrations, students will have out-of-the-ordinary, in-class experiences. Animals large, small, and exotic, will all be discussed. Care and husbandry, interactive first-aid procedures, and restraint handling practices will be addressed. Additionally, students will be able to conduct observations of goats, sheep, cows, and horses in our on-site barn. The camp includes an all-day field trip to Wright Veterinary Medical Center in Bethlehem, where students will have a rare opportunity to observe animal examinations and surgical procedures. Please bring a nonperishable, bagged lunch.

Working with Wildlife Camp
Ages 11-13

Do you have an interest in wildlife as a career? This week-long interactive day camp is designed to give kids exposure to the myriad opportunities within the fields of wildlife conservation, wildlife rehabilitation, zoology and environmental sciences. As this camp is held on-site at the Lehigh Valley Zoo (LVZ) in Schnecksville, participants will be meeting people who work in these fields and will be able to see, for themselves, the behind-the-scenes schedule in running a zoo. Up-close and personal encounters with zoo animals are sure to be a highlight of this week. Speakers from the Lehigh Valley, working within related fields, will be on hand to describe their work experiences and answer questions. LVZ is an Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA)-accredited zoo, located on the 1200-acre Trexler Nature Preserve in Schnecksville. Red kangaroos, dama wallabies, arctic wolves, river otters, birds of prey, rainbow lorikeets, ostriches, emus, snakes, and tarantulas are just some of the many species on view. And let’s not forget about the zoo’s newly-acquired eight African penguins! This is sure to be a week your child will never forget! Lehigh Valley Zoo is located at 5150 Game Preserve Road, Schnecksville. Please bring a nonperishable, bagged lunch.
