The Women's Softball team won the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference championship on Saturday, earning the right to host the PCAA State Championship series against the Community College of Beaver County. LCCC rallied from a 5-0 deficit to stun defending state champion Northampton Community College 9-5 in the semis and then whipped Penn State Berks/Lehigh Valley 10-2 in 41/2 innings in the title game at Schnecksville.

"We lost to Northampton twice last week, and that proved to be a godsend," first year coach, Keri Weaver said. "It brought us together and made us hungry."

Northampton used a Missy Bachert home run to jump to its 5-0 lead, but LCCC (17-2) erupted for seven runs in the fifth inning and tacked on three more in the sixth.

Palmerton grad Melanie Ralston was 2-for-3, drove in two runs and had two RBIs in the first game. Then she swatted a three-run home run in the first inning of the finals.

"The way that first game started off was rocky," Weaver said. "It wasn't looking good, but the girls didn't give up. It was as simple as 'see ball, hit ball, run.' One inning turned the whole day around."

Lehighton grad Shawneen Romito came on in relief in Game 1 and was the winning pitcher in Game 2. She also hit a three-run home run.
