Computer Game and Simulation Development - Digital Arts Track A.A.S. (CGS)

*This is an overview of the program. The course sequencing is meant to serve as a guideline for your semester planning. Please note that the scheduling of courses, program sequencing and curriculum are subject to change.*

This degree program is designed to prepare students for entry-level artistic work in the computer video game and simulation industries or related fields. Industry positions include, but are not limited to, animator, 2D sprite artist, 3D modeler, texture artist, character rigger, game-environment designer, and user experience designer. Students utilize industry-standard software and game engines, produce game assets and animations, and gain practical experience working with programming students in team environments to produce game and simulation projects. Effective project management techniques are used as games are developed collaboratively. Skills learned in this degree may be leveraged into other artistic careers.

While some students may wish to further their education by pursuing a baccalaureate degree at a four-year college or university, the degree is designed for students preparing to enter the workforce directly, in an entry-level position, or to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities for game development.

Program Objectives
Upon successful completion of this program, graduates will be able to:
• obtain an entry-level position in the computer gaming industry or design games and simulations as an entrepreneur
• design and develop user experiences in a computer video game, from concept to completion, using two- and three-dimensional game engines
• identify the various roles, genres, and historical influences within the game industry
• create sound and artistic assets for use in video game and simulation projects developed collaboratively with the programming track students
• understand and implement the principles of animation, in both two- and three-dimensional animation
• create physics-based animations, to more accurately simulate natural occurrences and phenomena under
user-driven scenarios
