Distance Education Software Downloads

The following software may help you access WebStudy more effectively or open course files successfully. These software packages have versions available for both the Windows and Mac operating systems, unless noted otherwise.

Web Browsers:

  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer (check "Windows Update" to make sure that it is the latest version for your operating system)
  • Apple Safari (use "Software Update" to make sure that it is the latest vesrion for your operating system)
  • The web browsers found on mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, have limited support for use with WebStudy.

Plugins and media players that you may need:

  • In Internet Explorer you should see an information bar pop up at the top of the viewing area of your browser that tells you that "The website wants to run the following add-on: (name of plug-in ie: Quicktime, Windows Media player plug-in)..." Please click on the bar and choose "Run ActiveX Control" to install the correct plug-ins.
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader (for PDF files)
  • Adobe Flash Player (for a lot of video files)
  • Adobe Shockwave Player (for special animations and videos)
  • Java (for special animations, programs, and videos)
  • iTunes
  • Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint & Word Viewers (for Windows only)
  • OpenOffice (This free alternative to Microsoft Office is a possibiltiy but their could be compatibility problems.  Check if your instructor if they allow this type of document.)
  • QuickTime
  • QuickTime Lite (can be used instead of QuickTime; some functionality lost; Windows only)
  • Real Alternative (can be used instead of Real Player; some functionality list; Windows only)
  • Real Player (not Real Player Plus which has a fee)
  • WebStudy LockDown Browser
    • Your instructor may require the use of the WebStudy LockDown Browser in order to securely take a test.  This can be download by going to http://lccc.webstudy.com/download.php.
    • Due to user account permissions, it is not possible to install the WebStudy LockDown Browser on computers in the LCCC computer labs.
