WXLV Roots 90.3 FM, the radio station of Lehigh Carbon CommunityCollege (LCCC), will debut a locally-produced sports variety talk showat 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16. Titled "The Manny and Eric Show," theone-hour weekly show (6-7 p.m. Wednesdays) will be co-hosted by theLehigh Valley's resident Olympians Marty Nothstein and Erin Hartwell, who will address the hottest topics and most controversial issues insports, fitness and wellness, pop culture, and current affairs.
Hosted by two insiders who have "lived the Olympic Dream," theprogram is designed as an amalgamation of MSNBC stalwarts "Countdownwith Keith Olbermann" and "Morning Joe," ESPN's "Pardon theInterruption," and National Public Radio's "Car Talk."
Nothstein and Hartwell are the two most successful American trackcyclists of the modern Olympic era. Both are three-time Olympians witha combined 40 years of international racing experience and 15 Olympicand world cycling championship medals. Hartwell is now President andCEO of The Valley Preferred Cycling Center, and Nothstein is ExecutiveVice President.
The show was developed by Hartwell and Nothstein in consultation with Burr Beard, WXLV's Program Director and on-air producer.
Exercising caustic wit and biting humor while complementing eachother's broadcasting strengths, the team brings a unique andexperientially opinionated in-the-trenches point of view to itsaudience. Although the program is created upon a foundation of seriousthought and discourse in addressing today's relevant athletic, lifestyle, and cultural issues, humor, opinion, and tangentialdiscussion are integral to the show's success.
"This is a sports variety show--it's designed to flow betweenserious discussion and humorous situations," says Hartwell. "We expectto inspire thought, incite action, and bring a laugh. However, theprogram will be relevant and respectful, and we'll always be aware ofour surroundings and audience."
The show will surely leave the audience laughing, while keepinglisteners up to date on the world of sports. "This is a greatopportunity for Erin and me to share our opinions on sport and lifewith listeners in the Valley," says Nothstein. "While the basis of theshow is composed of serious topics, you can count on the fact that Erinand I will spin it in a way that is sure to entertain."
