The CDL training program at Lehigh Carbon Community College (LCCC) will offer discounted CDL training and testing to local firefighters in Lehigh, Carbon and Schuylkill counties as part of a public safety grant from the Federal Department of Transportation. The program, which consists of both on-and off-site training, focuses on parking skills and advanced safety skills. In order to provide an established comfort level, the training and testing is provided on the fire companies' respective fire trucks.
This pilot program began classes in December. The cost per firefighter is $200. A firefighter must have a minimum of 15 hours of training behind the fire engine wheel to be considered for the training. The classes will be offered on weeknights and weekends.
