Job Title: Associate Dean of Student Success

Work Schedule: Full-time

Annual Salary: $58,499 to $75,556

FLSA Status: Exempt

Summary:

The associate dean of student success reports directly to the dean of students and has primary responsibility for providing leadership, assessment and management oversight for the following: first year retention and student success, academic standing and progress, academic advising services, transfer advisement and planning services, transfer of credit from other colleges, prior learning assessment, international student advisement, career advisement and planning services, job and internship placement services, and personal counseling for mental/behavioral health intervention and support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides collaborative leadership for the director of advising services, academic advisors and personal counselor for the development and implementation of proactive and intrusive service strategies to enhance student success and holistic growth, with central focus of activities on enhancement of first year retention and student success.
  • Provides direct supervision and is responsible for the evaluation of the director of advising services, director of career services, and personal counselors (mental/behavioral health).
  • Collaborates with directors of advising services, director of career services, academic advisrors, personal counselors, instructional program coordinators, and advisory committees to create service strategies that lead to increased retention, persistence, and student success in transfer, degree/certificate completion, and job placement.
  • Provides collaborative leadership to the personal counselor for the development and implementation of outreach efforts and provision of service to enhance the behavioral health of students.
  • Serves as a primary member of dean of students' team in addressing at risk behaviors, mental and behavioral health concerns.
  • Identifies and secures additional resources (e.g. grants, collaborative partnerships, etc.) to support services and efforts to improve student persistence, academic and career success.
  • Evaluates and infuses appropriate technologies in the delivery of services.
  • Monitors and assesses the achievement of annual goals and objectives for each of the reporting service areas.
  • Monitors and assists in the periodic comprehensive systematic review and assessment of services within each of the reporting areas. Ensures that reviews are implemented every 5 years in accordance with the Student Support Service Review Policy, providing assessment of service soundness and quality, identifying areas of strength as well as areas for improvement.
  • Monitors and assists in the development of annual operating budgets for all reporting areas.
  • Interprets and implements all college policies and procedures related to all areas of academic and student services.
  • Carries out special projects and assignments as required.

Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited university in counseling psychology or social work. Licensure as professional counselor, social worker or psychologist is required. A minimum of 3 years work experience in a professional counseling role is required. A minimum of 2 years in a management or supervisory role is required. Experience in student affairs at the two-year college level is preferred. Understanding of assessment practices in higher education preferred. High level communication skills, interpersonal, written and verbal. Strong presentation skills. Collaborative leadership skills and abilities are essential. Ability to partner with faculty and staff in addressing a broad spectrum of student affairs issues. Understanding of and commitment to the mission and values of a comprehensive community college.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
